Todd didn't exactly pick a 1968 Firebird because that's what he wanted. It just happened to be the one he got. It's actually been ours, or in the family, for a number of years. We've kept this gem hidden in the garage at the Haven.
But we didn't exactly drive this gas guzzler around. In fact, it's only been out a couple of times in as many years. It does need some body work, a paint job, interior facelift.... yeah. Perhaps "gem" is not the best description. It's one of those projects that stays on the back burner. Indefinitely. But we've kept the dream in the back of our heads that one of these days, we'd fix her up. So when Todd got an offer to sell it, I was a little surprised that he was considering it.
Each of the kids has kind of hoped they'd get to drive it ... but no such luck. (We've seen what can happen in the high school parking lot. No thank you!!)
We took these pictures so the kids could have something to remember it. Because, yes.... Todd took the offer, and we've sold the Firebird. As he reminded me, "It's just a THING." It's true. And we certainly hadn't been doing anything with it.
So, on a sunny July day, we rinsed the dust off, and took the Firebird for a final spin. There's something about the rumble of that engine that is not the same as today's cars. Maybe one day, we'll find something to replace the Firebird. In the mean time.... here's Todd:
And the unintended but positive result, is that now, we actually have room in the garage to work on projects. (Upcoming post on that, as well!)
