You can't judge a book by its cover...

... a.k.a. the Ultimate Hotel Fake-You-Out.

Over the course of the three week trip, we stayed in 6 hotel rooms: Portland, Provo, Moab, Denver, Cody, and the final one in Rexburg, Idaho. And out of all of those, only one hotel room merited its own photo session.

Our final stop was in Rexburg, after our day in Yellowstone. One of our main reasons for stopping off in Rexburg was this:

Brandon was on his final weeks of the semester at school, and we got to have a visit with him and Cecilia there. Can you tell that Emma missed him?? In fact, they made us dinner that evening, and after our extended trip full of eating out for weeks, it was nice to have a home-cooked meal.

But, back to the hotel.

We've stayed in our fair share of hotels over the years, but this one was truly unique. From the outside, it looks like your average nice-and-fairly-new hotel. Nothin out of the ordinary. But if you expect to walk into a traditional silk plants and cherry-stained furniture and dark colors, think again!

Here's the lobby that greets you when you walk in the door:

ORANGE. And ROYAL BLUE and lime green! And chrome, and and a lot of round lines.  And then there were these curtains in two big circles on the ceiling. The curtains are two layers: sheer blue fabric, and silver chain-style beads.

See the flat screen and the round, modern ceiling chandelier? And in the background of the next photo, do you see the royal blue on the wall? Those are pull-down shades that have a large "water-drop" picture that extends across the width of several panels. Behind those shades are the counter for the morning breakfast buffet bar.

Here's the continuation of the color scheme and modern style in the the hallway with the carpet pattern and the light fixtures:

Then we got to our suite. First thing you see when you walk in the door is the desk and sitting area:

Sectional sofa, 2-part nickel-and-solid-surface coffee table, and the desk has a room divider built in the back. The white panels in the back are frosted glass sliding panels that open up into the bedroom area... (next photo) which is done in blue and lime... see the column light on the nightstand? And there's also a reading light on the corner of the headboard:

Can we just take a moment to say that Darcie absolutely LOVED this room???

And of all the many hotel rooms and suites that we've stayed in, this was the first one I've ever seen a walk-in closet:

The fridge and microwave area -- not unusual for hotel rooms now...

But then this room had two half-baths, instead of one bathroom. The first was simply a toilet and corner sink. This photo is of the second one, which had a full counter with a lighted mirror-on-a-mirror (light come from behind the round mirror here) and a full shower. And both bathrooms had sliding doors -- not pocket doors, but sliding on a track. And the doors all had the frosted glass full panels, like the desk.

But what the girls felt was the ultimate modern convenience, was that instead of the typical alarm-clock-radio on the nightstand...... look on the left:

Yep. It was an iHome. Darcie wanted to move in.

We grabbed a quick photo of all the kids together before heading out of town...

... and back home. The only little hiccup was taking the Suburban in to have a part replaced, which put us leaving town a little later. It was a fun trip, jam-packed full the whole time, and we loved it. But it was sure nice to be going home.
