Projects

There's never a time when there is not SOME sort of project going on at the Haven. Some projects just take longer than others. And some projects evolve as they go. Here's one that will be helpful to every other big project we've been thinking of. It's the Breezeway Enclosure Project.

The 2-car garage at the Haven is only connected to the house by the roof. The space between the house and garage (the Breezeway) has been known to collect all kinds of items: shelving & lumber, lawn mowers, bicycles, softball equipment, four-wheelers, you name it. And every fall, it becomes a magnet for fallen leaves that come from at least as far as the OLD house (diagonally across the street).

That is, until now. Todd's project for the last several weeks has been to enclose the Breezeway and create a smaller version of his dream workshop. His dream workshop would be about 3 to 4 times as big as this, and fully loaded with every power tool imaginable..... although he has a pretty extensive collection already. For now, he has this, and the eventual result will also be that the garage will have space cleared out, and we may ACTUALLY be able to start parking a vehicle or two in there!

So Todd worked hard on framing, adding a window & walk-in door, increasing the lighting, and putting siding up over the new section. But when the overhead door was installed, it really made a big difference. Now we can drive the riding mower and four-wheelers in as needed, but having them behind doors is HUGE to us:
From the inside.....
And the new ramp and pad outside. Please disregard the missing fence section (since it's been repaired!).
My project is not NEARLY as ambitious. I only have a piece of furniture. Well, actually I have three. But I'm starting with one.
This lawyer's or barrister bookcase is destined for my living room. When I first looked at it, my original idea was to paint it black. Maybe with sanded or distressed edges. That was the plan up until right before I bought the spray paint. Then I got on a kick to paint it a creamy white instead. I'm not sure why, but I went with it. Inspiration?
Removed the glass in the doors, removed the doors themselves, and sanded everything down. Next came 2 coats of primer -- just 'cause:
(Ok, so this pic was taken part way through the first coate of primer!) I bet you're wanting to see some "after" pictures, huh? Well......... you're going to have to wait. The title of this post isn't "Finished Projects", it's just plain old "Projects". The kind that are in the process, even as we speak. In other words, NO -- neither of these projects is done. But we're working on it. I'll keep you posted. I just didn't want you thinking that we're lounging around this place....
