I Love a Parade!

There is nothing like a small town parade. It's fun to rediscover the little joys of the annual parade through the eyes of an almost-three-year-old. Emma loved the dancers, bagpipers, and firetrucks, but she didn't quite get into the spirit of the candy-tossing tradition. The kids around her were all too fast for her, and snagged the candies before she would. (Luckily, one little boy was pretty generous about sharing with her. There IS still good in the world!) Even when one candy landed right at her feet, the little girl next to her picked it up, instead. Maybe next year, Emma will be a bit more confident about it.
She did especially love the horses, though. And all the pretty girls would wave..... RIGHT AT HER.... so that was pretty cool. Emma waved back, and she was starting to do the same fake, pageant wave that the girls used:
The highlight for us (well, ok ... for ME) was the high school band. They look great in their uniforms:
I'm not sure if Emma was able to pick out Alyssa in the band. The trouble with uniforms, is that everyone all looks the same. Can you spot her? She's in the second column from the side, third row back from the front (towards the right side of this photo):
Ok, how about a better shot? She's in the middle here. (I love that this shot has a vacant lot for the background, so you can see the "hill" in the background)
Darcie's Junior High band also was marching that day, but Darcie had an all-day volleyball tournament, so she didn't get to march in the parade. The upside to THAT, was that her team won the whole tournament, so she was pretty psyched about that!
Moving on to more end-of-summer, beginning-of-fall activities.....
