Strike Up the Band!

For 20 years, our high school band has had the same uniforms (or so they tell me). They look like this:

That's Cameron marching at the Roundup Parade, two years ago. The uniforms held up fairly well, but they were overdue for replacements. The band did a lot of fundraising and planning, and this fall the new uniforms finally arrived!! They look like this:

This is Cameron as a senior, at the fall concert. Hard to believe this is his last year! Last Friday's football game was the last home game of the season, which means it was also Senior Night. Since the field is a few blocks from the main school, the band marches over on game nights, with a police escort. That night was the first time I'd seen them do that. So for Senior Night, they have the parents of the seniors escort their student out on the field before the game, and give them a rose. It's a nice touch, and they do it for the band, the cheerleaders, and the football players.

We're very proud of Cam and think he's pretty amazing. We have watched him mature especially in the last year or two and we sure like to see the young man he is becoming.

One of his many talents include holding his hot chocolate while playing the trumpet left-handed:

Kinda brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it? :-)
