So, the High School's Homecoming Game and Dance were a week ago. Yes, it's that time of year! The band played in full uniform, and had a halftime show at the game (which we lost). I regret to say my pictures of the halftime show are not good -- a bad angle. So I'm not sharing them. But Senior Night is coming, and I'll try for some better pictures (and angle) that night.
Here are a few shots of Alys and her friends from that evening, before the dance:
There would have been a larger group of kids, but due to some personality differences of some of those involved, they split themselves into two groups. If the background scene weren't so smokey from the wildfires surrounding our area, you'd be able to see that the river is in the distance of that last shot.
The girls were at our house, doing hair and getting ready, so I snagged a few shots at home before meeting the dates. Alyssa asked me to make the corsages and boutonnieres... which I finished the day before:
(I'm out of practice..... and out of callouses. Working with the wire for the flowers made for some sore fingers. But it was worth it!)
This picture was what happened when the boys said, "We don't know what to do with our hands." So the girls had a little "woo hoo" moment.
Alyssa told me they had fun that evening. When the dance was over, they came back to our house and played night games and indoor games for a while. Alyssa's date had a birthday the next day, and Alyssa made him a chocolate cake with vanilla cream filling -- so when midnight hit, they pulled out the cake and sang, "Happy Birthday" to him!
And as a side note here.... Darcie also had a date for the Homecoming Dance. Yes -- she's sixteen now, and can go on dates!! Can you believe it?? Well, she ended up not going with the boy. The inside story is..... when he asked her to the dance, it was via a text message. Darcie told him she would go with him, if he would ask her in person. However, he never gunned up the courage to speak to her in person. A few days before the dance, she cancelled the date. Darcie didn't want to spend an uncomfortable evening with a boy who wouldn't talk to her.
We talked about the propriety of cancelling a "major" dance date only a few days before the dance. Clothing reservations, dinner arrangements and so forth -- it's unfair to leave the boy stuck with the expenses and no date. So she spoke to him -- in person -- and he decided to go "stag" to the dance. This is not uncommon in our area, so it would not be a social gaffe. Darcie decided to spend the evening with some closer friends from church, playing games and watching movies. It all turned out well in the end.
My girls are growing up, right before my eyes!!
