january 2016. and catching up.

I just sat here, scrolling through my last blog post [which, by the way, was too long ago!], and thinking that I have both A)missed blogging, and B) I'm now missing out on what I should have been writing about. Maybe reading the sentimental Christmas post on a super-rainy afternoon had something to do with that!

So, with that in mind, I'm renewing my blogging goals and I'm going to get caught up. I hope you don't mind a few retro posts, as I dive back to memories that range from right now, all the way back to LAST spring. It's time to do this. I have a strategy in mind, and I hope to stick with it! To keep from falling behind, I'm going to start with THIS year, and maybe piggyback some retro posts at the same time. Here we go!!

Dateline: January. 2016.

Actually, December 31st, to be exact. I'm starting off with our New Year's party at Grandpa and Grandma's house. We play games and munch out all evening, until the countdown. Here's a few shots from then:

Darcie never fails to give wild faces for the camera!

Grandma -- our lovely hostess for the evening!

Todd with a handful of cards, playing Frustration.

My girls with Apples to Apples at the other table.

Clynn & Joey (back at the Frustration table)

Batman needs no introduction.

Emma loved having Alyssa there to play Heads Up with her.
While Alyssa and Andrew weren't able to make it home for Christmas, they did come for New Year's weekend..... which makes my heart sing!! Love having the kids back. We would have been complete if Brandon and Cecilia & the kiddos could have made it as well, but that wasn't in the cards this year.

I was sporting the black brace, thanks to the broken wrist from 2 days previous. This was still pre-surgery.

Happy New Year!!

As part of the plan to "make this a memorable Christmas" for Emma, we also planned a trip to the nearest ski resort, which has a tubing hill. So on New Year's Day, we drove up to the mountains for a day of snow play!

(Don't they look cute together?)
I really appreciate Andrew and Alyssa taking Emma with them up and down the tubing hill. There was no way that I could be with her because of the wrist, and Todd was nice and stayed back near the lodge with me, to keep me from being stuck all alone.

And then, .... there is this chickie:

... who bypassed tubing and went for the skis. That day was her first-ever time skiing -- and I think she did pretty darn amazing! (A softball catcher's leg muscles are certainly a big help in skiing!)

(ready for the up-the-hill tow line)

That is SO much easier than having to pull your tube back up yourself!!

Cameron has been skiing before, so he was Darcie's impromptu ski instructor. (Todd was giving her pointers, too, from the bottom of the hill.)

Then these two left the bunny hill, and went further up the mountain.
So much for Mom getting any more pictures!!

When we were done for the day, Todd pulled out the camp stove and fired it up for some hot chocolate to warm us all back up...

... which is kind of misleading, when you see the littlest Huffaker with no coat on, claiming that she was "so hot!"

(whoops --- sliding this shot from earlier back in. She's just too adorable!)

We left as the sun was going down -- I couldn't help trying to capture it on camera.

The next day, Darcie left to head back to college, and we had to say our goodbyes...

Although Darcie had originally planned on driving home from school, we were the classic, obnoxiously worried parents, and when we saw the weather forecasts -- we opted to bring her home on a plane instead. (We stand by that decision -- it was a good choice.) This was our final goodbyes at the airport.

Aaaaannd, ..... January must have been a really dull, boring month.
I know this, because I really didn't take any pictures during the whole rest of the month.
(I know, right? What's up with that??)

So how about if I just finish out with some Adorable Grandbaby Pictures?

How about those arms on this not-so-little guy?!

Ohhh my goodness!! Baby D looks SO much like Brandon did at that age. I really must dig out an old photo for comparison!

Two little kiddos in their Sunday Best!

And finally .....

One super-chic shopper!!
This girl is rocking the dark glasses. I love it!!
