Time and Tide Wait for No Man

Time and tide wait for no woman, either. For no child, for no siblings, for no mother. Time will march ever onward, forward -- always forward. No matter how much I would like to freeze a moment, I can't do it.

As soon as Christmas 2013 was done, it was truly time to pack up  -- not just one kid, but two kids: pack them up and send them off to college. Both Cameron and Alyssa were registered for BYU-Idaho, and both are assigned to the Winter-Spring Track.

If you're unfamiliar, BYU-Idaho operates on a three-track system, instead of a two-semester system. It is explained well here. So, this past fall, both Cameron and Alyssa have been working to earn money for going off to college, they registered for their classes, arranged for their housing, but have not been attending college during the fall.

Move-In Day was January 3, so it was a mad scramble to get them both packed and ready to make the long drive south. We had already decided that Cameron would take the little green pickup down there, and that Alyssa would go without a vehicle. But then, she got a good review and recommendation from her boss here, and was able to transfer to the same job at the Rexburg location. Which is all fine, except the distance from her apartment to work is not exactly walking-distance.

So maybe that explains these photos.....

Yep, it was a foggy afternoon the day before we left. It was a foggy morning on the day we left, too!!
So we took the black Jeep down to Rexburg as well, for Alyssa to drive.

The roads were actually not as bad as I'd feared. The passes were the worst for snow and ice on the road. But Lolo pass was beautiful:

Emma loved the snow and wished she had those new snow boots on for playing in it.

Everything Cameron took fit in the back of his pickup -- and there was a lot of room leftover. We even packed stuff down there for some friends.

The next day was Move-In Day.

Can I just say that moving a girl is a lot different than moving a boy? Not bad, just different.

Cameron is rooming with his best friend from high school. It was so cool to have these two back together again. With different departure times for their missions, I think it had been over 2 1/2 years since they'd seen each other.

And apparently we (ok me!) are gluttons for moving. That weekend was also a move-in weekend for my sweet niece and her newlywed hubby. I really hope that Todd didn't mind too much that I kind of volunteered him and Brandon (and the rest of us) to help with moving them in. Oh.... did I mention that it was a 3rd floor apartment? Ha!!

And Brandon & Cecilia were the best -- they hosted all of us for dinner that night, and we stayed with them for the rest of our Rexburg leg of the trip.

(Kinda wishing I had Alyssa in that photo, but she was partying it up that night at I-Night on campus)

The next day, it was our goodbyes to Alyssa. And I'd also just like to say that girls tend to pose for photos a LOT more than boys do. Cameron was *done* with photos in a short period of time!

Emma's hug says all that I feel. Oh, how I will miss this girl while she's away at college!! I really feel like I left a part of my heart behind. Not that I would have it any other way: I do want her to have that away-from-home experience and to have a lot of fun while she's pursuing her education.

I'm beaming with pride here. My heart swells and I see so much ahead of her!
Pretty sure our Darcie is missing Alys about as much as I am:

After leaving Rexburg, we stopped off in Pocatello to visit with my sweet sister. Seems like ages since I've seen her -- I can't remember the last time.

My niece and her kids were also visiting that week. Sweet family!

One more of my sis. I don't see my family all that often, so those moments when I do are all the more important to me. Love you, Sis!!
